Team Lavinia De Vito and Tess Doolan Burke are the first of two Ardán/ Galway City of Film short documentary bursary recipients for 2024! Alongside the bursary, the team will be mentored by filmmaker Donal Haughey.
In ‘Milk’, Lavinia and Tess will document the story of two Irish women connected through breastmilk donation – offering a window into a varied experience of motherhood.
Lavinia De Vito is a documentary filmmaker originally from Rome, Italy. Having grown closer to documentary through developing as a cinematographer, Lavinia is interested in exploring the complex bonds of human relationships through close collaboration with her subjects, creating immersive, attentive imagery and worlds.
Tess Doolan Burke is an Irish writer, director and documentary filmmaker. Her documentary practice is centred around creating intimate portraits, focussing on the bonds that tie us together. Through her work she hopes to encourage an emotional understanding of unique subjects that audiences may never have come across.
The Short Documentary Bursary is part of the annual Galway City of Film programme for 2024 which is managed by Ardán, and is made possible by support from Galway City Council Arts Office, Galway County Council Arts Office, Screen Ireland and the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media.
