Grace Harte fought off competition from 233 entrants to be chosen by the Professional Association of Regional Public Service Television in Europe, CIRCOM, as Winner in the Prix CIRCOM category for Entertainment and Drama. The award will be presented at the Prix CIRCOM Gala Award show on Thursday 24th May 2018, in Leeuwarden, the Netherlands.
Grace Harte centers around a love triangle that ends tragically. It is a three part drama, set in a dilapidated hotel in the West of Ireland. It stars Kate Nic Chonaonaigh as Grace and IFTA winning actor Dara Devaney, as her husband Leo, who owns the failing hotel, alongside Eoghan Ó Dubhghaill as an ambitious surfer, who gets caught up in Grace’s plan to murder her husband.
The TG4 commissioned project, written by Antoine Ó Flatharta, directed by Charlie McCarthy & produced by Martha O’Neill for Wildfire Films, received support from the BAI’s Sound & Vision scheme as well as Section 481 funding.
Speaking about the achievement, TG4 Director General, Alan Esslemont said:
“I’d like to congratulate everyone involved in Grace Harte. It goes to show what can be achieved when creative partnerships bring together top quality talent, with collaboration from ambitious funders, to produce edgy drama. That is what TG4’s ‘Súil Eile’, or ‘alternative view’ is all about”.
David Lowen, President of Prix CIRCOM, added:
“Anyone viewing these programmes and seeing the skills which went to making them will know that public service media is thriving on TV, online and on social media.”
